Skyward is about Spensa, a teenage girl, wanting to become a pilot. Her world has been under attack for years due to these creepy alien things. Her father was killed years ago after he deserted his team, which leaves Spensa’s chance of attending flight school pretty low. But when she does get in, an accidental discovery in a cavern might help her.
Skyward is the first Sci-fi book I ever read, and I loved it.
Spensa might be one of my favorite FMCs ever. She was so inspiring throughout the entire book. I loved how she kept getting up even when people would make fun of her or tell her that she couldn’t do it. She faced many challenges, yet she kept going.
Brandon Sanderson did a wonderful job when creating this world. It was super exciting and fun to read about.
Like many of Brandon Sanderson’s books, it was fast paced, yet not rushed. It was exciting, but it definitely made me cry more than once. It kept me entertained for (almost) the entire story.
My favorite quote from Skyward is, “People need stories, child. They bring us hope, and that hope is real.” (Skyward, page 424)
In the end, this was a full bloom book for me. I would recommend it for ages 12+, but I would definitely recommend it for anyone who is into aliens and pilots.
