Keeper of the lost cities by Shannon Messenger is about twelve year old Sophie Foster, who realizes she is an elf (wow). She must learn to live in the Lost Cities, but there are secrets in her brain. Secrets people desperately want.
Keeper of the Lost cities was the book series that got me into reading. I remember thinking, “Just get it. It’s not like you’re going to like it anyway.”
Long story short, I absolutely loved it and came back for book two a week later.
Every character in this book is amazing. They are all such complex characters that have their own personalities and beliefs. They are so lovable, and there are relationships you will absolutely love.
Shannon Messenger does a wonderful job creating storylines that keep people entertained. I never got bored reading this book. Almost every chapter ends with a realization or plot twist. It is fast paced, but not rushed.
I love the world that Shannon Messenger has created. Everything about it is super unique. I also love that some of the places in the Lost Cities are based on real places. For example, Foxfire was based off The Louvre.
I have many favorite quotes. One of them is, “I’d rather be punished for making the right decision than live with the guilt of making the wrong one for the rest of my life.” (Keeper of the Lost Cities, page 476)
If that doesn’t tell you the kind of person Sophie Foster is, I don’t know what will.
Another one of my favorite quotes is, “Am I supposed to help Frodo destroy the ring and save Middle Earth? Or do I have to make toys in the North Pole?” (Keeper of the Lost Cities, page 18)
In all, this was a full bloom book for me. I will never get over this series. I would recommend this book for 11+, but I would honestly tell any age to read it.
